My fascination with art making started as I was entering my adolescent years. I discovered drawing at a young age, and it was like magic. For the longest, my goal was to recreate the reality that was in front of me. To my understanding at that time, that was the purpose of art. It never occurred to me that there were other ways of seeing art.
It would take decades until I realized that trying to duplicate the world around me through drawing wasn’t the path for me. I would eventually embrace non-objective or abstract styles of art. This was miraculous, because I discounted that as legitimate art for most of my life. Now, I can’t imagine any other way to express myself.
The purpose of my art is to communicate something from within me, using the elements of art. This communication comes from a place where words are insufficient. My strongest inspiration comes from my impressions of nature and the seasons. I am not trying to instill any particular message through my art. I am simply trying to provide a visual experience for the viewer. Hopefully, they can take away their own meaning or interpretation.
